River habitat fragmentation is one of the main threats to the functioning of river ecosystems. But river barriers also perform essential functions for society and pose several management issues.
The Adaptive Management of Barriers in European Rivers (AMBER) project (H2020) aims to develop strategies to achieve a more effective rehabilitation of river connectivity and ecosystem functioning, taking into account the complexity and tradeoffs presented by barriers.
This launch introduces the AMBER project to institutions dealing with river science and management. Beyond the launch of the AMBER project, the event has the scope of presenting and sharing research experiences in the field of natural resource management, in particular concerning the study of biotic and abiotic river system connectivity.
